Google

Google is one of the five most popular websites in the world. Google is a web search engine that lets you find other sites on the web based on keyword searches. Google also provides specialized searches through blogs, catalogs, videos, news items and more.

Google provides Internet services that let you create blogs, send email, and publish web pages. Google has social networking tools, organization tools, and chat tools, services for mobile devices, and even Google branded merchandise.

How Google Began: Larry Page and Sergey Brin collaborated at Stanford University on a search engine called "Backrub." The name came from the search engine's use of back-links to determine page relevance. This is a patented algorithm known as PageRank.

Brin and Page left Stanford and founded Google, Inc in September of 1998.

Google was an instant hit, and by the year 2000, Google was the world's largest search engine. By 2001 it did something that eluded most of the dot.com business startups of the time. Google became profitable.

There are then the rest of the gang following behind such as Zoho, ThinkFree, and Corel’s new WordPerfect Lightning; not to mention the handful of open-source applications such as OpenOffice and StarOffice. All of these feature the ability to do word processing, spreadsheets, and more. However, which do you choose? What will give you the most for your money or is less really more?

Optimus Maximus Keyboard

Introducing the Optimus Maximus OLED keyboard. This could be one of the most pointless items we have reviewed here on Pointless But Cool. I still want one. So, what is it I hear you ask? Well, it's a standard keyboard with a difference. Each button contains a little screen.

The keyboard connects to your PC via USB and is configured through the included software. You can choose what graphic you want on each button for specific applications and integrate some of the tools in some programs.

The keyboard has 113 buttons, each with it's little screen. Imagine the hours of fun you could have with that, sat in a dark room..

I would like to try and teach someone to type in a room with the sun streaming through the windows and all the lights on, then we will see what this beast can do, if anything in those conditions.

If you are partial to the odd game of solitaire or one of those weird shooting games then this could be of use. But, I think paying almost a grand for a keyboard is a bit excessive when you could just print out some stickers and shove em' on a cheapy old keyboard.

Belkin Flip

Belkin has announced a new switch that allows users to share a monitor, keyboard, mouse, audio and one USB device between two computers easily. The Belkin Flip features a small remote that can switch between two computers seamlessly and easily. There are three models that will begin shipping next month. The base model features just PS/2 and VGA ports and retails for £30. There are two higher end models, one features PS/2, VGA, and audio.

USB Gloves

Spring is supposedly here and it’s allegedly not so cold during the day that one can go out in a fleece hoodie instead of a winter coat. We wouldn’t know from experience, since Gawker Media recently had us fitted with house arrest anklets to keep us home typing up posts for your enjoyment. At any rate, if the weather is still so chilly as to keep you from comfortably typing on your keyboard or playing games, you might want to purchase a pair of USB heating gloves. These wool gloves with heating elements inside have two heat settings and can rise ten degrees in five minutes, making sure your hands are toasty warm for optimal Katamari rolling.

Moog Music’s synths

Moog Music’s synths are beloved for their sound, playability, and quality standards … and the fact that they’re not ugly and boring. As true analog synths, they produce sound by directly controlling the electrical voltage that courses through their innards, something that is difficult to translate to digital instruments. But Moog keyboards are usually a luxury item, even though the late synth builder Bob Moog himself wanted to build a more affordable option. The Little Phatty is the “Moog nano” everyone has been waiting for, a basic but uncompromising mono synth that emphasizes live playing. If this isn’t your thing, you had better accept that you won’t be able to shut up your local synth fanboy or girl for the next 12 months. Just lock them in a room with one of these for the year and drop off baloney sandwiches. They’ll be happier that way.

RKS Wave guitar

If you and your glam rock bandmates go through a few costume changes during every performance, now your guitar can join you with its own wardrobe malfunction. Here’s the Wave Guitar from RKS Guitars, the first ax with an interchangeable pick guard and body shell. Just unscrew the old skin and replace it with the next color, and you’re good to go in just a few minutes.
